The UI is gesture-based so you can control the phone by playing gestures like drawing M for music which was present on previous Coolpads. While the app performance is great and it’s 4 GB is effective in multitasking.Ĭoolpad could incorporate the Dual Space feature in Note 5 but that’s a signature feature of Coolpad Max. It also happened in the Coolpad Mega 2.5D. Not by the performance but the software itself is not perfect and maybe Coolpad should update it. The software I felt is somewhat sluggish and the animations were lagging. Swiping from the top doesn’t get you the common shortcuts like Wi-Fi, Data, Torch, Rotation, Brightness, etc but you have to pull the bar from the bottom instead which is just the same in Coolpad Mega 2.5D. But the shortcuts are placed at the bottom. It gives you slightly stock Android feel. The user interface looks quite particular to most Coolpads you see just a different design of UI. The display quality appears sharp and the colors are vibrant.ĬoolUI 8.0 is the new interface from Coolpad based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow carrying the September security patch. The reflective glass often exhibits reflections making it hard to read otherwise has a bright screen. The Coolpad Note 5 comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display covered with 2.5D curved glass. The viewing angles are good under sunlight shade. There’s a microphone at the bottom and another microphone at the back above the main camera. Moving to the bottom of the device, you can see the standard Micro USB and not the latest USB Type-C. Coolpad Note 5 supports 4G network along with VoLTE. The Micro SD can be expanded up to 64 GB. The tray holds either two Nano SIM cards (GSM + GSM) or (GSM + MicroSD). What’s more on the right is the hybrid dual SIM tray. The fingerprint scanner can unlock the phone without pressing any buttons. The left side has volume buttons, the right side has a power button. Front flash is probably something new for this price segment as well. Hence, Coolpad Note 5 could be a complete standout among others. Not all phones come with a front flash until now. This is where Coolpad Note 5 has an edge. It 13 MP camera sounds like its same from its predecessor, however, the front is upgraded to 8 MP camera with surprisingly front LED flash. 2.5D Curved Gorilla Glass 3, Front Camera Has LED Flash Still No Backlit ButtonsĬoolpad Note 5 seems not upgrading its camera, at least, on paper. The front branding is eliminated unlike its selfie companion Coolpad Mega 2.5D still no backlit touch buttons from Coolpad. Nevertheless, the handset feels comfortable in the hands. The Coolpad Note 5 bulkier than its predecessor (173.4g vs 130g) and I believe it is due to the larger battery 4,010 mAH and yeah, it’s also thicker (8.9 mm) than many other smartphones in the industry. I haven’t witnessed such fast fingerprint scanner at this price. The fingerprint scanner on the back is super fast. Also, the design is now metallic where its predecessor, Coolpad Note 3 was made from plastic. The design reiterates the Coolpad Mega 2.5D in terms of design. There’s chrome finished lining on the side edges that looks quite elegant. The back is has a matte finish design which pleases you on touch. The 2.5D glass seems to be becoming a new trend in the smartphone industry.
